Reno-ing...

Frugal is defined as:
–adjective
1. economical in use or expenditure; prudently saving or sparing; not wasteful: a frugal manager.
2. entailing little expense; requiring few resources; meager; scanty: a frugal meal.
I think that these are good definition of what Jason and I are trying to accomplish! We all know that decorating you house is hard when you are on a budget, and adding your personal touches is even harder! One way that you CAN accomplish this is by picking up the "left overs". Most people believe that there is a stigma to using previously enjoy items but with imagination those items are easily turned into something brand new! Here are some items that I'm working on!

This is a dresser that we bought off Kijiji for $20.00!! I loved the clean lines of it, but it definitely needs work! Two out of the three drawers didn't open, there were water stains on the top, and the stain on the dresser has worn off. However this beauty, with a little wood filler, paint and new handles will be our master bathroom vanity, and I'm so stocked about it! I love that this dresser has had a life before it joined our family! I also loved that this dresser looks like its been forgotten about for quite sometime, but it is gonna have a huge supporting role in our bathroom! Stay tuned for the after pictures of this fine specimen!

These chairs are probably one of my favorite finds off Kijiji! They were listed for being for sale for $40.00 for the pair, but when we went to go pick them up the wife of the seller just wanted them gone so badly that she said we could take them for FREE! These two chairs are going to be recovered by none other than than ME, and will be used as the end chairs for our dinning room table. The blue flowered silk fabric will be removed and the wood re stained to update and give them a completely new and updated look to a vintage pair of chairs.

This is one of my favorite projects! This is my Grandma's sewing table that I was lucky enough to inherit! Unfortunately I'm not a big sewer, but I did want to re purpose this beautiful table so Ive decided to make it into a side table. The height of the table is too high for a side table, so the legs will be cut down. I can't wait to show you the after of this project!

This is another one of my Kijiji purchases. I bought this mantle for $60.00 from a guy who was doing a house Reno. In our master bedroom we had enough room to have a sitting area, but when we put the two chairs in, I felt like there was no purpose or focal point for the area. We didn't have the money or the room to put in a real gas fireplace, so thus, just the mantle. My plan is to bang it up so it looks more rustic and then paint it white and add an antique glaze to make it look like it is something that has been loved for many years. This project turned out amazing! I'll post pictures soon! We now have a purpose for our sitting space even if it is all just for show!

                                                                        ..........

I am always on the look out for furniture or ideas that aren't expensive but that I think with a little work can add the wow factor to a space! Check back for the after pictures of my DIY projects!

I had talked so much about our "Dream Reno House" that I thought I would share some of the before pictures of it! Keep checking back because as we complete rooms/projects I will be adding the afters! Hope you enjoy!

P.S. Keep an open mind, and use your imagination because after seeing these pictures I think you might think we are crazy! No I know you think we are!

Lets start with some to ease us into the house... Our backyard!

So this is our first floor formal dinning room.

Notice the lovely wallpaper and brown shag carpet! We actually found a dried up pea in the shag from Thanksgivings past when we were cleaning! Ewww...

Standing at the front door we have the stairs to upstairs, as well as the hall closet. Directly to my lft is the dinning room.

That pink paint you see is the living room. Still makes me a little sick to my stomache... I thought Pepto Bismal was supose to help that??

This is our kitchen! Its a good size but the floor makes me a little dizzy!

Our main floor powder room.

One of the three bedrooms upstairs.

The second of the three bedrooms

Upstairs hallway

The infamous blue bathroom!

I love that the toliet, tub, walls and tiles all match!

The master bedroom... I think there was a sale on blue paint....

The door on the left is the bathroom and the door on the right is the closet... one of two closets in this room.

Notice the sink is outside the bathroom! haha still makes me laugh!

Color coded bathroom numero deux... Pink!

The "Man Cave" as my husband likes to call it!

The second of the two wood burning working fireplaces.

The Pepto Bismal living room...

The main floor wood burning fireplace.

And that completes the tour of our "Dream Home" I hope you see as  much potential in it that we did! I also hope that you track along with us as we put on our DIY hard hats, our imagination goggles, and spend the pennies in our budget! Stay tuned for our next GREAT adventure!
